PANAGIOTIS VARAGIANNIS  is a Clinical Dietitian-Nutritionist. He completed his studies in the Harokopio University of Athens  in the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics, and his Master of Medical Science degree in the area of Clinical Nutrition in the University of Glasgow, Scotland, in the Department of Human Nutrition, Faculty of Medicine. He is currently a PhD candidate in the Agricultural University of Athens (Department of Food Science and Technology-Unit of Human Nutrition) in the area of childhood obesity.

He is the General Secretary of Hellenic Dietetic Association (2007-present), the Coordinator of Specialist Group: 'Weight Management' of the Hellenic Dietetic Association (2012-2016) and a Member of Scientific Committee on Nutrition Policy of the Ministry of Health (2011-2013). He has participated as a speaker or in Organizing Committee in many national [Hellenic Dietetic Association Congress (9th-15th)] as well as European conferences. He has also been an invited speaker to events organized by Universities, schools or municipalities to give presentations on improving and adopting healthy dietary lifestyles directly to children, parents and members of the community.

He has written 2 scientific articles in medical journals and 2 books: a. A Practical Guide to a new Dietetic Office, and b. 18 Greek recipes - the nutritional value of Mediterranean sustainable gastronomy (Mesogeios Gastronomy).

He really likes traveling, getting to know new places-people and trying new tasty suggestions in addition to his favorite New Greek Cuisine. He loves reading, theater, cinema, sports and he constantly try to find time to include them in his program. Finally, he is now particularly interested in issues related to Gastronomy (Neurogastronomy, Digital Gastronomy) and Sustainable Nutrition which he presented in the recent Hellenic Nutrition & Dietetics Conferences.

His vision is to explore the relationship between Gastronomy and Human Nutrition. Upgrading and informing the public on issues related to the Art of Cooking, the Architecture of restaurants but also the protection of Public Health, and especially on issues of Healthy Eating and Nutrition Education is, in his opinion, a real need, obligation, but also the major motivation for this membership. He hopes and wishes to have the opportunity to inform the public, on issues concerning the sustainable gastronomy and encourage a better nutrition situation for the population. Finally, he also argues with the vision of Greek Taste Beyond Borders about the expansion of Greek Taste and Culture based on modern strategies and powerful business network.

PANAGIOTIS VARAGIANNIS was recently certified & awarded by the GREEK TASTE BEYOND BORDERS® GTBB organization with the CERTIFICATION OF VALUE & QUALITY GOLD MEDAL 2021 for his visionary thinking in managing to connect his science as a nutritionist with several aspects of gastronomy. His new perspective in modern gastronomy redefines the philosophy of how gastronomy is conceived by most of people, by recruiting for this purpose Neurogastronomy (the study of flavor perception), sustainable gastronomy, history of art and the ancient Greek heritage far beyond his science.
