Chef Georgios Kastanias grew up Greek in Africa. His passion for cooking first started at the age of five, while watching his mother cook in the kitchen. He decided to be a chef at the age of 15, and after high school he completed and graduated four different culinary schools in Greece, Switzerland, France and Italy. Chef Georgios traveled and cooked for many gourmet resorts and restaurants in Europe and Northern Africa. Seventeen years ago, Chef Georgios was driven by an opportunity to pursue his career in The United States, becoming the executive chef at a distinguished ethnic Greek restaurant in North Carolina. From there, Chef Georgios continued on following his dream of opening his own restaurants in North Carolina and in Tennessee. He’s competed in cooking competitions and won gold medals while living in the U.S.
In 2012, he moved to St. Louis and has already begun to take the culinary scene by storm. He’s had the title of executive chef consultant at several restaurants, he is also the founder/CEO of Alexander Foods LLC., a company that imports goods worldwide, and distributes all over the united states, specializing in authentic greek and meditterranean products. Alexander Foods is a consultant company for developing menus, recipes, and provides services to the hospitality industry. Chef Georgios used to have a weekly cooking segment on Fox 2 news (KTVI) in St. Louis every Saturday morning.
Chef Georgios spends a lot of his time working with local chefs from prestigious country clubs and restaurants from all over the country. He takes pride in expanding his skill set and improving his craft by collaborating with other chefs in the culinary scene. He actively supports the ACF and the Junior team from the local Chef De Cuisine chapter in St. Louis, along with Culinary team USA 2024, lending them and other local chefs the kitchen at Alexander Foods.
Chef Georgios has been appointed with the titles Chef Ambassador of Greek-Mediterranean Cuisine , by the American Culinary Federation of the United States, alongside Professionnel de la Table for the Chaine Des Rotisseurs, an esteemed world food and wine organization. His most recent and exciting accomplishment was having the honor to cook for the 2020 Grammys. Chef Georgios goes above and beyond his title “Chef.” Being a chef is not his job, it is his passion.
Every product Alexander Foods imports is personally sourced by our founder, Georgios Kastanias. As a former chef, he set out to discover the highest quality foods to feed his own family, produced by the trusted agricultural families of Greece. Now he wants to bring this level of quality foods to the U.S.
Unlike large corporate distributors, we are not looking for the bare minimums in quality. We strive to exceed our customers’ expectations and our own with every new product addition. So we go to great lengths to test every product we sell.
We begin by visiting the actual farms and villages that produce our products, meeting the families who have created these products for generations. Then we regularly sample the products to continue to ensure the highest quality.
